Extra Care Needed When Fibromyalgia Patients Become Pregnant

Fibromyalgia, Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue, Always Tired, Tired, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFSUnfortunately, those women who  suffer from fibromyalgia and become pregnant often see an increase in their symptoms. No one has been able to pinpoint why this is the case. However, an increase in the following symptoms have been reported:

  • Inability to sleep leading to worsening fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting during the first trimester
  • Tender spot pain depending on the position of the baby
  • Muscle cramping

It is important for those who do suffer from fibromyalgia during their pregnancy to seek alternative forms of care other than medication to alleviate their pain for the safety of the baby. One area that has seen great success in helping fibromyalgia patients is that of upper cervical chiropractic care.

Fibromyalgia Helped by Having a Healthy Upper Spine

The top bone of the neck is called the atlas or C1 vertebra. If this bone misaligns due to an accident or injury, it places undue pressure on the spinal cord. The job of the spinal cord is to send signals to and from the brain and body. If it is being stressed, improper signals may be delivered. This, in turn, can lead to the symptoms of fibromyalgia, such as tiredness and pain.

I work with my fibromyalgia patients to find these misalignments and then develop a plan to correct them. I use a specific method that targets the misalignment and through gentle means helps to move the bones back into place. This reduces the stress being placed on the spinal cord and restores proper communication between the brain and the body often resulting in a decrease in fibromyalgia symptoms.

A case study was done involving a 31-year-old woman who saw her fibromyalgia symptoms begin to improve within just 2 months of getting an atlas adjustment. Over a time period of 18 months, she received 5 more atlas corrections and was happy to report that she no longer needed medication to help her cope with her fibromyalgia. I strive to provide similar results for my patients.
