How Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Can Cause Depression in Children

Child, Depression, Chronic FatigueA report in the British Medical Journal referred to a study that was performed involving 542 children, ages 12-18, who suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome. Depression was seen in 29% of them. Along with depression, anxiety and pain were prominent. The National Alliance on Mental Health reports that 2% of children in elementary school are showing psychological warning signs that they are already suffering from episodes of or will develop major depression. This is the same for 8% of pre-teens and teenagers. How is this connected to chronic fatigue? The symptoms of depression and the symptoms of chronic fatigue are very similar. These are pain, isolation, and feeling irritable. Is there help available?

Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Many people with CFS and depression turn to their medical doctors for help. The majority of the time medication will be suggested. However, the trend is that most people want to treat their problems and those of their children through natural means if possible. Upper cervical chiropractors have had success in doing just that.

Rather than trying to treat the symptoms of a problem like chronic fatigue, we look to the underlying cause of the problem. It is surprising to learn that problems such as depression, CFS, anxiety, fibromyalgia, and mood disorders can come from a tiny misalignment, as small as ¼ of a millimeter, located in the upper neck. A misalignment in this area places undue pressure on the brainstem that hinders blood flow, interrupts nerve flow, and causes the wrong signals to be sent to and from the brain and the body.

We use advanced technology and specialized methods to determine where the misalignment is. It may be a little different for each person. Once detected, we work with our patient to correct it, allowing the body to begin to heal. Our patients have reported feeling much better, with some even having symptoms disappear entirely. All of this is accomplished without the use of drugs with harmful side-effects.
